Wallaby Open

The stunner. Oleg Bondarchuck was able to play a very sneaky trick (along with Paris Williams and Brett Hazlett) and beat Manfred (who thought he was in the lead) into goal by 20 minutes.

Oleg, Paris, Brett, and Mike Barber staged themselves way up wind on the east side of highway 27 in the 5 mile start circle. Manfred apparently didn’t see them hanging out away from the rest of the gaggle at the start circle circumference.

These guys got a good start and flew fast and Manfred never saw them. He should have been keeping an eye on Oleg as Oleg was the guy behind him.

Twenty minutes was all that was needed from Oleg to overtake Manfred who hadn’t built an insurmountable lead going into the last day. Paris did well enough coming in with Oleg to move into third place to continue his rule as US National Champion.

Alex Ploner, the current Class 5 World Champion, held on against a stiff challenge from Christian Ciech to win in Class 5.

More analysis and results tomorrow.
