The meeting was held at 7:30 p.m. at Jon James’ home and was attended by Ernie
Camacho, Leo Jones Matt Jagelka, Andy Long, Jon James, and Greg Sugg.
Site insurance and information requested by the USHGA:
The USHGA has requested the following information regarding the club and the
sites we insure:
1. Club membership list with USHGA membership numbers
2. List of officers
3. Club by-laws
4. Waiver releasing the USHGA from liability at insured flying sites
5. List of insured flying sites
6. Procedures and rules for each site
7. Payment for the site insurance
The sites we will be insuring this year are Goat Rock/Vista Trail, St. Helena,
Crazy Creek, and St. John. At Crazy Creek we will be asking Wally Anderson to
chip in for site insurance in accordance with the amount of teaching he does
there. Also, Ken Brown will be asked to contribute if he operates another
aerotow clinic. Use permits for these sites need to be renewed.
We have been assured that the use permit for the St. John ramp will be
forthcoming at the end of February. Also at St. John, officials at the Fouts
Springs Youth Facility are enthusiastic about our club making a presentation
there about hang gliding. They indicated that they could provide two work crews
of ten men each to help with the ramp improvements this spring. People from the
Stonyford library are eager for us to make a presentation about hang gliding to
the school kids there.
Club trips
The following club flying trips were suggested and
tentatively scheduled:
Regionals June 21 to 23
King Mountain meet June 26 to 30
Lakeview July 21 to 27
Owens Valley August 11 to 17
Social events
Several possible social events were suggested. They
included a visit to the Williams Soaring group, a trip to the air museum, a
visit with a balloon club, and a visit to see and speak with the people who
operate the Henry I, a rescue helicopter.
Safety
Our new safety officer, John De Aguiar, has asked
for club input on safety related items to be addressed this year. Some
suggestions we came up with are:
1. First aid / first response training.
2. Parachute repack party.
3. Emergency radio procedures including the use of repeaters to obtain
emergency help in remote areas.
4. Video taped launch / land clinic.
5. Video taping landings whenever we fly. We never get to see ourselves land.
Unauthorized paraglider pilots at Goat Rock
We need to identify these people and get them to
comply with the site procedures and rules including club membership and signing
of waivers.
