Sonoma Wings Executive Committee Meeting Minutes

January 4, 2003

The meeting was held at Matt Jagelka’s home and was attended by Albert Branson, Donna Matthias, Matt Jagelka, Jon James, Kurt Bainum, Ernie Camacho, Charley Warren, and Greg Sugg.

USHGA Required Documents

Albert got all of the club officers’ current information for the annual submission required by  the USHGA.  He also consulted with Jon James regarding site insurance and permit documents required annually for the club’s various flying sites.  Jon has done most of this work and has acted as the club repository for these documents over the years.

It was decided at Matt’s suggestion to add the owner of the dirt airstrip with a hanger on the north side of Road 308 near Elk Creek to the insurance coverage for the St. John flying site.  The dirt strip is not the one back in close to the hills on the south side of the road.  It is, however, an excellent landing zone going north at St. John.  The owner is very supportive of our flying activities and has welcomed our landing there.  This addition does not affect the insurance cost.

Official Sonoma Wings Address

In order to simplify communication with the USHGA and other organizations and governing bodies, the committee is planning to use Matt Jagelka’s home address as the official Sonoma Wings mailing address.  This works well since his is already the address to which membership fees are sent.  In this way the club address can remain constant year after year.

List of the President’s Duties to Aid Succession

Albert noted that there are numerous forms and document submissions which need to be made each year in a timely manner.  They primarily involve the USHGA and the governing bodies at our various flying sites.  In order to help future club presidents, and to keep them from being blind sided by these things, he will draw up a list of the responsibilities and their due dates to be passed on to succeeding club presidents.

Domain and Bulletin Board

The committee discussed and then decided that Ernie will re-register the domain “sonomawings.com” with Sonoma Wings Hang Gliding Club as the owner.  Also, he will create a new bulletin board, which will likewise have Sonoma Wings Hang Gliding Club as its owner.  This will better secure these club assets and make it easier to distribute their maintenance among club members.  In addition Albert will send a letter of thanks to John Blacet for his valuable efforts and contributions to the club establishing these excellent communication forums in the first place and for his cooperation in resolving the issues concerning them of late.

PG Banditos at Goat Rock

Apparently there are still one or more unauthorized paraglider pilots flying at Goat Rock.  They seem to be from the Bodega Bay area and fly the site on weekdays without the required waivers and club membership.  If we can’t resolve this issue with these pilots soon, the club will request that park rangers at Duncans Mill issue citations to them.

Virtual Trophy Case

Jon said he would like to see a section on the club web site devoted to the various awards and trophies won by club members over the years.  This would be a Virtual Trophy Case, which would contain current and historical information about all our club competitions and other accomplishments of our club’s pilots.  The committee members agreed that it would be a worthy addition to the web site.  No immediate date or plans were decided on.  Ernie will be quite busy with the new bulletin board for a while.
