Sonoma Wings meeting notes from 1-27-2005

This was our first meeting of the New Year. Attending the meeting were Ernie Camacho President, Donna Matthias Vice President, Matt Jagelka Treasurer, Greg Sugg Site Director, Jon James Safety Director, Charley Warren Secretary, Gregg Hackett unofficial liaison to the PG community, Andy Miller, John DeAguiar, Bernard Passamer, Kathy Burtis, Larry Roberts, Fred Clement and Kerri Lemos.

At 19:28 Ernie stood up and brought the meeting to some sort of loose order.

First we got a report from the executive committee. Pilots are reminded that to find out everything going on in the club it is best to come to the meetings because there is no reason to make some of the internal club workings public by reporting them in the notes.

One thing we are working on is a sort of lesson plan for new officers. The idea is to document the duties to make it easier for new officers to learn, in hopes that new people will start stepping up to be officers.

We have dropped the Cinco de Mayo fly-in and replaced it with the "Spring Fly-in" at St Helena. The date this year will be 4-30 & 5-1-05. It will be similar the Cinco fly-in and all the rules for flying St Helena will apply (20 pilots max).

5-7-05 we will join in the Stonyford Rodeo Parade. We will need volunteers to man the float and help decorate it. We're hoping Linda will want to co-ordinate this effort. Any demo flying would have to be co-coordinated with the locals.

The St John Fly-in will be 7-23 & 24. We've moved it up four weeks to take advantage of longer days and hopefully better weather. Since we moved it up we need volunteers to step up by next meeting 2-24. Jon James volunteered to be Meet Safety Officer and Gregg Hackett stepped up to be the PG Head. We need a Meet-Head and Prize-Beggar most of all.

There will be a work party on Potato Hill. The target date is the weekend of 3-19 & 20. There are some forms to fill out for the Forest Service and we may need a permit from them.

We will have a throw and pack session at Justin's on February 19.

Ernie reported on the towing going on around us. There are links on our website to two tow groups. One is aerotow at New Jerusalem airstrip, between Tracy and Lodi. The other is a scooter tow operation at Mercy Hot Springs.

Matt reported that he found a check misplaced since the St John Fly-in, so everyone's checkbooks should balance now.

Ernie has some posters pilots can get from him and post them around where people will see them and they will be encouraged to make donations to the PG World Team.

We have the go-ahead for the year to fly Goat Rock and Vista Trail. Our insurance on the sites is due 3-1-05.

Matt wants to have an Owens Valley Fly-in this year. He said he will post to gauge level of interest.

There will be a Pacific Soaring Council soaring clinic 2-25 at UC Berkley. Cost is $25

Finally we raffled off a bunch of t-shirts. Jon won a Sonoma Wings shirt. Bernard kept winning he collected an '03 and an '04 St John Fly-in shirt and passed on his third win! Matt and Larry both took home Cinco shirts and Kerri won a Sonoma Wings shirt.

The next meeting will be 2-24-05 at the Occidental Rd Round Table Pizza at 7:00pm.
